A pair of world record-breaking dogs is proving that pets can come in all shapes and sizes.
The current Guinness World Record holders for the world’s tallest dog and the world’s smallest dog met in person last month, the organization said on its website.
Reginald, who goes by Reggie, is a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho. At 3-foot-3, Reggie is the tallest living male dog, according to Guinness World Records.
Meanwhile, Pearl, a 4-year-old chihuahua from Florida, is the shortest living dog at just 3.59 inches.
There’s a three feet difference in size between the pups — about the same height as a baseball bat or acoustic guitar, according to Guinness World Records.
In early April, Pearl traveled across the country to meet Reggie in person, and their playdate was caught on camera.

Pearl and her owner, Vanesa Semler, traveled to Idaho to visit Reggie and his owner, Sam Johnson, Guinness World Records said.
At their playdate, the dogs’ owners set them on the couch together. Reggie lowered down to meet Pearl’s eye level while she ran back and forth over his legs, according to Guinness World Records.
The owners told Guinness World Records that the pair became fast friends.
“I was surprised Pearl wasn’t more afraid of Reggie. But she was so excited and interested in him, and he was just like ‘whoa, I have no idea what that is,'” Johnson said.
Johnson also told the organization that while Reggie is generally aware of his surroundings, he can eat off counters and even has his own sink faucet to drink water out of due to his size.
Pearl, on the other hand, is not intimidated by bigger dogs, Semler said.
“When Pearl meets bigger dogs, she is really friendly. I think she has no idea she is a small dog,” Semler told Guinness World Records.
How big is the world’s biggest dog ever?
Despite Reggie’s towering size over Pearl, another four-legged friend holds the record for the tallest dog ever, according to Guinness World Records.
Zeus, a Great Dane who died in 2014, was the world’s tallest dog ever. He reached a whopping 3 feet, six inches, rising three inches taller than Reggie, who holds the record among living dogs.
In contrast, Pearl was recorded as the world’s shortest living dog in 2023. She is related to the previous record holder, the 3.8-inch-tall Millie, who died in 2020, according to Guinness World Records.
How does Guinness World Records determine records?
Guinness World Records has been measuring the world’s record breakers since 1954, according to its website.
The organization determines new record breakers through an online application process that requires applicants to submit evidence showing a record attempt.
The company’s record management team reviews the applications and if an attempt is verified as successful, an applicant earns a record-holder certificate, according to Guinness World Records’ website.
