NEED TO KNOW

  • Sophie Turner and Kit Harington are reuniting on-screen for the first time since Game of Thrones

  • The new gothic film The Dreadful sees the actors starring as romantic interests for each other, which Turner said is “really weird for all of us”

  • Turner and Harington played siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow for all eight seasons of Game of Thrones

Sophie Turner and Kit Harington‘s on-screen reunion might be a bit weird for Game of Thrones fans.

Turner and Harington starred as siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, respectively, on the hit HBO series for eight seasons.

They’ve teamed up again for a gothic horror film set against the 15th-century War of the Roses. The Dreadful sees Turner’s character Anne’s life changed when Harington, playing a figure from her past, returns.

The catch is: Turner and Harington’s characters are romantically involved in the new film.

“I did a movie last year which I’m really excited about with my old but very good friend Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones.” Turner, 29, said in an interview with Vogue published on Wednesday, July 16, while discussing her new film.

“We’re doing a gothic horror,” she said. “But we play lovers.” Turner then apologized, likely to Game of Thrones fans, as she said, “It’s really weird for all of us.”

Turner was the one responsible for Harington being cast alongside her in the upcoming horror film.

Weird as it might be, Harington, 38, has the actress to thank for his role in the film.

“They were trying to find someone for that role, and I was like, ‘You can’t not have Kit,’” Turner told The Times in a story published in September 2024.

“It’s set around the time of the Wars of the Roses, so we’ll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again,” she explained.

The pair’s casting was announced in February 2024, and Turner shared an Instagram post celebrating the news. “I mean we couldn’t NOT hang out again ya know 🤷‍♀️ #thedreadful,” she wrote.

She recently said that “everything” she’s “learned” is thanks to her time on Game of Thrones.

During a recent appearance on the Dish podcast, the Joan star said that the series “informed my entire life in terms of like business decisions, just etiquette on set, how to act.“

“I never had proper formal training, so I got to learn from the amazing actors around me, which I felt like I won a competition,” she said of her costars, which included Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams. “But it was great. We all were a family.”

After nine years playing Sansa, Turner said of her character, “It felt like we kind of merged into one person by the end of it. But it was amazing.”
