Leighton Meester never wanted a big wedding.
Even though the Gossip Girl alum, 39, couldn’t wait to marry Adam Brody, 45, she revealed in a new interview with Bustle published on May 28 that she initially didn’t even want them to have a wedding because she was worried that their celebration would feel like a spectacle or a production.
“On sets and in life, I’ve been able to wear a fancy dress and hit a mark and say lines, and I didn’t want it to feel like that,” Meester told the outlet. “I wanted it to feel intimate and private.”
Meester got her wish when she married Brody in a private wedding in Northern California in early 2014.
“She’s very happy. She has a lovely ring. She likes [it] a lot,” a source told PEOPLE about Meester in February 2014.

Despite the ceremony taking place more than 11 years ago, the couple have kept most details of their big day secret.
The actors, who first first worked together in 2011 on the set of The Oranges, revealed they were dating in February 2013. Over the years, they welcomed two children: a daughter, Arlo, born in 2015, and a son, whose name has not been revealed, born in 2020.
In September 2024, Brody appeared on Today with Hoda and Jenna to promote his Netflix series, Nobody Wants This. While discussing the romcom, which costars Kristen Bell, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager got their guest to reveal what the “magic” of his relationship is.
“Oh, pick someone good. Be lucky and be in love with someone who’s great and then just kind of listen to them,” he replied.
“If you’re with someone great, you’re on third base,” The O.C. alum continued. “Not that it doesn’t take sacrifice and humility and you have to grow together and you have to be willing to grow, because you’re not going to be able to stay 100 percent right where you are. But if you’re with someone wonderful, I think you’re on third base.”

Meester joins the upcoming second season of Nobody Wants This, and will play Abby, the middle school nemesis of Bell’s character Joanne who is now an “Instagram mommy influencer,” per Variety.
