A gunman involved in a shooting at a hospital in York County, Pa., on Saturday morning is dead, according to the authorities and a hospital official.
The gunman, who has not been publicly identified, was at UPMC Memorial hospital, which is in West Manchester Township, at about 11 a.m. when shots were fired, Susan Manko, a vice president of public relations for the hospital, said in a statement.
UPMC, the hospital system that includes UPMC Memorial, said in a statement that the gunman was dead.
“No patients have been injured,” Ms. Manko wrote, adding: “The hospital is now secure. This is a fluid situation. Law enforcement is on premises and is managing the situation.”
It was not known whether others had been injured.
The gunman had been “neutralized” and an investigation was underway, Ted Czech, a public information officer for the York County Office of Emergency Management, said in a phone interview.
Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said on social media on Saturday afternoon that he had been “briefed on the tragic shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital” and was on his way to the hospital.
