A frustrating bug in Pokémon GO caused the ongoing Road to Unova Timed Research Tasks to get stuck, the game not recognizing any progress to the mission when players finished a Raid — and not only did Niantic fix the issue, the developer rolled out a generous compensation scheme to make up for the mistake. Every Pokémon GO player received a free and already completed copy of the Research, netting them eleven Legendary Pokémon at once.
That’s right: If you log into Pokémon GO until March 2, 2025, at 6pm local time, you can easily grab close to a dozen rare Pokémon you’d otherwise have to capture through Raids.
“Trainers, thanks for your patience,” Niantic said in a statement. “We resolved the issue preventing Raids from progressing towards Raid-related Timed Research. To make up for this, a free duplicate of the Road to Unova: Raids Timed Research will be granted to all Trainers globally. Trainers who purchase the Road to Unova: Raids ticket will also receive a free duplicate Road to Unova: Raids Premium Timed Research. These will both be automatically completed upon receipt.”
The following Pokémon are up for grabs:
- Terrakion
- Cobalion
- Virizion
- Tornadus (Therian Forme)
- Thundurus (Therian Forme)
- Landorus (Therian Forme)
- Genesect
- Genesect (Burn Module)
- Genesect (Douse Module)
- Genesect (Shock Module)
- Genesect (Chill Module)
All creatures can appear as their Shiny versions, if you’re lucky, and pack their signature moves, so this is a massive win for players. In addition to these Pokémon, you’ll also be rewarded with ten Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem Candy after catching all eleven Legendaries.
Niantic also published a brand-new Pokémon GO promo code awarding players 50 Volt Fusion Energy.
Clicking the link will take you to the official code redemption page on the Pokémon GO Web Store. More of these codes are expected to be released every day during Road to Unova.
