It’s somehow been 20 years since the first Twilight Saga book was released, and Little Brown Books is celebrating by releasing three special editions on Sept. 30 — pre-orders for which are all currently discounted on Amazon.
As someone who went to Twilight midnight release parties for the books and movies, I have a lot of nostalgia for the franchise. That’s why my favorite of the special editions is the 20th anniversary paperback edition of Twilight, which maintains the iconic original cover art of black and white hands cradling a red apple.
But this new edition does find ways to spice things up for the anniversary. The $18.15 pre-order (was $19.99) also includes full-color art on the inside of the front and back covers, and the iconic line, “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb,” running down the spine.
If you’re looking to switch things up with these anniversary releases, the hardcover deluxe collector’s edition gives Twilight a complete new look for $28 (was $40). The classic black, white, and red color scheme is replaced by a dusty rose and teal floral motif, and includes a foil-stamped slipcase, ribbon marker, and illustrations of Bella and Edward.
I’m a Twilight traditionalist, and struggle to understand how this art style connections to themes and vibes of the books, so this hardcover edition will be nowhere near my shelves. However, even I, a curmudgeon, can admit that the cover and slipcase are cute, so I can’t begrudge anyone who wants to add this version to their collection.
The third and final anniversary edition is a five-book deluxe hardcover box set that includes the original four Twilight Saga novels, plus Midnight Sun, which is a retelling of Twilight from Edward’s perspective. You can pre-order this special anniversary collection for $97.30, down 30% from its typical price of $139.00.
Each book in the set has new cover illustrations which match the wraparound box art, as well as stained edges. And while I will always prefer my classic Twilight covers, this box set manages to feel modern while still paying homage to the original design. If I didn’t have such an unhealthy sentimental attachment to my old hardcover versions, these are editions I’d be happy to display.
All three 20th anniversary Twilight editions will hit shelves on Sept. 30.
