Gracie Abrams is differentiating herself from her bestie, Taylor Swift.
The 25-year-old “That’s So True” singer previously opened for the 35-year-old pop superstar on her Eras Tour and has been frequently compared to Swift because of similarities in their songwriting. The two women even have a Grammy-nominated song together on Abrams’ album The Secret of Us.
However, in an article published on Wednesday, February 5, Abrams spoke to Cosmopolitan about how she and the 14-time Grammy winner are entirely different.
“I couldn’t be more different from Taylor. We are different in all the ways that my friends and I are different or that you and I are different,” the chart-topping artist admitted. “Taylor is an athlete, a brilliant businessperson, and a genius writer. She’s a grounded human being who makes time for everyone in her life. It’s been really cool to be in the orbit of a person like her.”
Abrams then called out Swift’s haters, saying, “There’s also nothing that comes close to what she has done. People will still gaslight her and her capabilities and all this s**t. But please point me to one man who has come close to defining pop culture in this way. There is nothing! But people are not ready for that conversation.”
The California native also opened up about how the “Cruel Summer” singer has proven to be a supportive friend in her life, helping her through a breakup.
“Last year when I was breaking up with my then-boyfriend, after talking to Taylor, I felt very backed by my decision. I felt deep support,” Abrams told the outlet. “Talking to her helped me maintain my stance in the breakup. And, of course, her songs help me through any breakup. They’re all one big love poem.”
Swift, for her part, spoke to Rolling Stone in February 2023 about Abrams’ music, saying, “Gracie’s writing mixes fragility with introspection in a way that I really relate to. It makes me feel like maybe she and I started writing songs for the same reason, just to try to make sense of how we feel.”
