At Palais de Tokyo, sacai’s folkloric Fall 2025 collection was built for the rigid wilderness, with all sorts of nods to furry animals, a distinct cow pattern made in partnership with J.M. WESTON and a heavy-duty ready-to-wear collaboration with Carhartt WIP. But perhaps the wildest creations on the brand’s nature-ready runway were designer Chitose Abe’s furry, head-turning footwear offerings, made possible by UGG.
The Japanese luxury label first joined forces with UGG in 2018 for a more straightforward offering of Knit Classic Mini boots. Now, after a generous hibernation, the duo has officially reunited for a three-piece footwear range consisting of fur-packed mountain boots, ultra-soft loafers and plushy thigh-high boots—all of which cite wild inspirations.
“The starting point for this collection was Where The Wild Things Are—the film and the book,” Abe told Hypebeast backstage. “We wanted to go on a journey with all of our friends, as we normally do, and this UGG line allowed us to do so comfortably.”
In one word, Abe called the woolly footwear line “family,” perhaps because the footwear designs are like an eclectic trio of siblings. Available in black and tan hues, the “mountain” boots (which we’d not recommend you actually wear on a hike) employ the Australian footwear brand’s sheepskin fleece on the tongue, which sits underneath a layer of heavy-duty laces and before a leather brim. The loafers, on the other hand, boast UGG’s signature fur across the front stitching on a classic penny shoe.
The thigh-high boots, meanwhile, feature a complex buckle system across the back of their design, and the top half of the design can fold downward to create a massive sheepskin statement over the foot. The transformative result is just as fantastical as the Wild Things’ far-fetched world, but Abe doesn’t want that to deter her clientele from sporting them all over. “I want to see people wearing these everywhere and anywhere,” she exclaimed.
