Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme delivered a cozy and practical collection for Fall/Winter 2025. The prolific Japanese designer has once again revealed a masterful and poetic winter collection that hinges on giving the traditional puffer jacket and elegant reinterpretations.
Teetering between poetic and pragmatic, the collection consists of a range of multi-purpose puffer jackets. Like receiving a warm hug, Yamamoto wanted to create a line of pieces that are fit for cold winter’s nights, but opts to move away from the chunky and oversized aesthetic. The designer wanted to create stylish everyday puffer jackets that resembled that of a beautifully quilted down. He says, “Down jackets are usually made of polyester, and they look so cheap. I wanted to make them special, and elegant — but it wasn’t easy to do.” The puffers saw patterns and graphics that resembled that of paint drips or wisps of smokes throughout, giving it a romantic and mysterious aesthetic. Instead, puffer jackets take on a sleek and versatile look that focuses on keeping you warm and protected, all while pushing the boundaries of winter fashion.
Cargo pants could double as ski wear and some jackets and coats were also reversible. Models on the runway would cluster around one another to turn their quilt jackets inside out and pair them with various outfits. Deconstruction is not new to Yamamoto but in this collection in particular, sleek city suits are reimagined for the outdoor. Outerwear receives a city chic aesthetic, delivering convertible stylings throughout. The color scheme saw shades of olive green to burgundy and towards the end of the collection, Yamamoto brings references of flowing water to the slick, shiny fabrics that were supposed to mimic “people walking in the rain, or the snow, in Paris or Tokyo.” Some pieces even saw blatant texts like Despair is the conclusion of the fool,” and “Sadness and suffering are the flowers of life.” Yamamoto used regular people as models, as he shared that he is bored with the conventional fashion week ones, ” What you saw were ordinary artists, singers and painters — they are always attractive.”
