The new Lucy Liu horror movie, Presence, is going to be, well, present in movie theaters this weekend.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, with a screenplay by David Koepp (who also collaborated with Soderbergh on the 2022 HBO Max original movie Kimi starring Zoe Kravitz), Presence is, as the title suggest, a supernatural horror movie about a mysterious, nefarious, spiritual presence in a family’s new suburban home. Or at least, that’s what the family thinks.
Also starring Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, and Callina Liang, Presence originally premiered at Sundance Film Festival last January, where Neon bought the distribution rights in a $5 million deal. Critics described the film as a “slow burn,” despite the film’s brief 85-minute runtime, so settle in.
Here’s what you need to know about where to watch the new Steven Soderbergh movie Presence, and what we know about when we expect to see the new Lucy Liu horror movie Presence on digital and streaming on Hulu.
Where to watch Lucy Liu horror movie Presence:
Presence will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. in select theaters on Friday, January 24. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Presence is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is Presence streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?
Presence is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Neon release, and most Neon movies stream on Hulu, not Netflix, thanks to the Neon and Hulu output deal. Presence will be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime after the movie is released on digital, but it will not be available to stream for free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original.
If you want to watch Presence movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Hulu.
When will Presence be streaming free on Hulu?
Unless the final stage of the Disney+ and Hulu merger finally happens, you’ll likely see Presence streaming on Hulu sometime in the next six months. Another Neon movie, Cuckoo, began streaming on Hulu a little over four months after it opened in theaters. If Presence follows a similar release pattern, you may see Presence on Hulu around late May or early June 2025. On the other hand, another Neon release, It Lives Inside, began streaming on Hulu just three months after opening in theaters—so it’s not a hard and fast rule.
This is all speculation. If you want to watch Presence right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
