Like the majority of Los Angeles residents, Kylie Jenner has been dealing with the ongoing wildfires in the area — but unlike most of the city’s residents, she can simply hop on her private jet and leave town.
Jenner, 27, reportedly took eight flights on her $72 million private jet since the fires started on Tuesday, January 7 according to an article by the Express that was published on Monday, January 20. The first of many flights occurred on Thursday, January 9, with the star taking her jet on a 15-minute flight from Los Angeles to Camarillo. Days later, she flew to Palm Springs and then to London on the same day to join her boyfriend, Timothée Chalamet, for the premiere of A Complete Unknown. After her trip to the U.K., she and Chalamet flew to Paris, France.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum then returned home and, most notably, took her jet out for three separate flights on Thursday, January 16, making stops in Fargo, North Dakota; Rifle, Colorado; and Teterboro, New Jersey — all in the same day. According to data reported by CelebrityJets, which tracks celebrity jet activity and their CO2 emissions, Jenner’s flights emitted approximately 162 tons of CO2.
On Friday, January 17, the mother-of-two shared a message on the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram page, pledging to donate “skincare, body, hair, and makeup products” to “a number of organizations who are helping the relief efforts.” She concluded her statement by saying, “Our thoughts, love, and prayers are with you as you find your way forward, and we pray that you can regain a sense of comfort and hope.”
Despite her noble intentions, followers quickly criticized her in the comments for her private jet use and the number of flights she had taken since the fires began.
“Taking a private jet to Paris, which contributes to the warmer weather and wildfires in LA, and then putting a bandaid on middle-class LA fire victims with your lotion, is horrific. Use your power accordingly,” wrote one angry fan.
A user on Reddit also blasted Jenner and wrote, “Kylie is so fake. How is she going to share things about the LA fires when she’s a big contributor towards the fires starting in the first place with the overuse of her private jet? And she’s been using her jet for days while the fires are still happening. Worms for brains,” before adding, “They don’t care. They will never care. Kylie sharing donation links is performative.”
This is not the first time the reality TV star has made headlines for taking excessive trips. She was mentioned in a Forbes article about celebrity private jet usage published in 2022. The billionaire has since seemingly refused to cut back, despite bad press and ongoing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions.
