Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson will separate after ten years of marriage, People reported Tuesday. They are parents to three children.
“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told People in a statement. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Simpson, whose 2020 memoir Open Book recounted the demise of her first marriage to Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, her struggles with substance abuse and path to sobriety, her battle with her body image, and the beginning of her romance with Johnson, recently teased a musical comeback on Instagram. In one November 2024 post, she wrote that “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Simpson and Johnson wed on July 4, 2014. They were introduced by a mutual friend in 2010, and enjoyed a long engagement after a quick proposal, six months after becoming a couple. They welcomed their first child, daughter Maxwell Drew, in May 2012, then son Ace Knute in June 2013. Both were part of the couple’s wedding festivities in Montecito, acting as flower girl and ring bearer, where they celebrated with 250 guests. They had a third child, daughter Birdie Mae, in March 2019.
In 2023, Simpson gushed to People about Johnson, saying that he made her feel “nurtured” and that after she met him, “everything felt so easy.”
“I don’t find it hard to love anybody, but I have always thought that I was hard to love, that I was too much for people, or my schedule was too demanding,” she said. “He knows my heart and understands my heart more than anyone I’ve ever met in my life.”
Representatives for Simpson did not immediately return Vanity Fair‘s request for comment.
