A Couple That Gets Dressed Together
The billowy ensembles of Lindy Reyes, left, and Andre Reyes drew my gaze as I passed the couple on Mulberry Street in Manhattan on a Saturday in late December. The Reyeses, who were visiting New York City from Singapore, were in a line of people waiting to enter the Aimé Leon Dore store in NoLIta.
Mr. Reyes, 50, a DJ and the owner of a pizza and records shop in Singapore called Choice Cuts Pizza & Records, looked casually dapper in his outfit of red sweater over white collared shirt and roomy cargo pants, which was accentuated with flourishes like shoelaces that matched the color of his sweater. Ms. Reyes, 47, a flight attendant, exuded a swaddled elegance in a slouchy blanket-like coat and a jaunty beret.
“You could say we naturally complement each other in an organic way,” Mr. Reyes said, adding that he and his wife take a collaborative approach to getting dressed and that she has a better fashion sense. “She took fashion design, I took multimedia arts,” he said. “Go figure.”
