A young Bob Dylan creates a spark in this scene from the biopic about his life, “A Complete Unknown” (in theaters). Timothée Chalamet plays the musician in his early years, here giving one of his first live performances, at the Greenwich Village venue Gerde’s Folk City. Chalamet performs the song while he plays guitar and harmonica.
In his narration of the scene, the film’s director, James Mangold, said that he didn’t want to be too stylized, cinematically, in capturing the moment.
“I felt that Bob’s style itself was so profound that I wanted to kind of lay back and just observe,” he said, “and allow the power of the music — which we performed throughout the movie live — let that music communicate.”
