Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage may officially be over sooner than originally thought.
According to TMZ, the couple – commonly referred to as “Bennifer” – officially finalized their divorce, with the settlement reaching a resolution after just five months. According to sources who spoke with the outlet on Monday, January 6, the couple will officially part ways in late February, marking the end of their whirlwind marriage.
According to the outlet, in terms of their financial assets, both parties will retain what they individually acquired during the marriage. Affleck, 52, will keep the money he earned from his various movie projects, as well as his stake in his successful production company, Artists Equity, which he founded in 2022 with Matt Damon. The company has since produced successful films such as Air, Unstoppable, The Instigators, Small Things Like These, and The Accountant 2.
Meanwhile, the outlet states that Lopez, 55, will retain her earnings from major projects she worked on during their marriage, including Atlas, This Is Me… Now, The Mother, Shotgun Wedding, and Marry Me. The couple also came to an agreement on their $61 million house, but the details of the arrangement remain confidential. The home is currently on the market but has yet to find a buyer. Additionally, JLo will be dropping “Affleck” from her name and returning to her maiden name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
Notably, the couple did not have a prenup, which typically would mean a 50/50 division of everything acquired during their marriage. However, their settlement, facilitated by renowned divorce attorney Laura Wasser, essentially serves as a prenup, as they both agreed to keep what they had brought into the marriage.
The divorce will officially be finalized on February 20, the same day as their six-month separation anniversary. It’s safe to say their relationship has been a rocky one, spanning over two decades.
They first met in 2001 while working together on the film Gigli, leading to a high-profile romance. The couple became engaged in 2002, but after much media scrutiny, they called off their engagement in 2004. After a 17-year hiatus, Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance in 2021 and quickly tied the knot in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, much to the delight of their fans. The wedding was followed by a more formal celebration in Georgia. Two years later in August 2024, Lopez filed for divorce, on the anniversary of their Georgia ceremony, nonetheless.
