A small plane believed to be carrying nine people crashed into a tourist city in southern Brazil on Sunday, colliding with buildings as it fell from the sky and injuring at least 14 others, according to the state’s governor.
The authorities said it was not yet clear how many people were aboard the plane that crashed Sunday in the city of Gramado, in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. But Eduardo Leite, the state’s governor, said nine people were believed to be aboard.
“Unfortunately, initial reports indicate that the aircraft’s occupants did not survive,” he said in a post on X.
As the plane fell, it reportedly struck the chimney of a building and the second floor of a house before crashing into a furniture store and sending debris into a nearby bed-and-breakfast, civil defense officials said in a statement.
At least 14 people were taken to the hospital with injuries, and two were in serious condition from burns, Mr. Leite said. Others were being treated for smoke inhalation.
